Terrific Timbers LLC will saw your logs into lumber, on your property.  We are a mobile sawmill service.  We bring the mill to your logs, and leave you with boards, scraps, and sawdust.   We saw logs for home, land and estate owners, woodworkers, contractors, farmers, timber framers, hobbyists, municipalities and businesses, and others who want their logs sawn into lumber.

We set up one of our sawmills next to your logs at a suitable cutting site.  If the logs need to be moved this is done with a logging arch,  logging chains, rope, pulleys or winches.

PLEASE NOTE:  Terrific Timbers LLC does not cut down trees, buy logs, or sell lumber.  We are not a tree service.

Wood-Mizer LT-40 Super 42HP bandsaw for logs up to 3 ft diameter, 20 ft long, 2 tons, and boards to 27" wide.

Peterson Portable Sawmill-  10" circular swing mill with chain slabber- for logs up to 5 feet diameter, 33 feet long,  too heavy to move, and boards to 20" wide and 10" thick.  Slabs to 5 feet wide and 9" thick.

Ready to cut slabs from maple logs with chain slabber.

We use TWO DIFFERENT sawmills.  Our first and most-used mill is a  Wood-Mizer® LT40HDD42 Super Hydraulic Portable Sawmill.  The Wood-Mizer will load logs weighing up to 2 tons, as long as about 20 feet, and as large as about 36" diameter.  From such logs it can cut boards up to 28" wide.   The sawmill has a 42hp Kubota diesel engine and two hydraulic motors for fast log handling.

This mill is a band saw, whose blades take out slightly less than a 1/8" kerf thickness.   This means we often get more lumber from your logs than would be obtained from a mill using a chain or circular blade. The cut can be very smooth, providing rough lumber  to be used directly in siding and other applications.  Square green timbers with accurate dimensions can also be achieved. Hard, soft, frozen, and reclaimed wood may be cut.

Our second mill is a Peterson WPF circular swing mill with a chain slabber attachment.  The Peterson can be carried in the back of a pickup truck making it ideal for transporting it longer distances for slabbing and sawing larger logs.  This mill can saw both large and small logs and with the slabber can handle just about any width and length wood one will encounter.   The mill sets up around logs up to 5 feet in diameter and 33 feet long.  The slabber attachment will cut slabs up to 5 feet wide and 9 inches thick.  In the photo above, we are set up to slab a hard maple log with a wide crotch section.  Nearby is a 4 foot diameter silver maple log which was cut into about a dozen 2-1/2 inch thick slabs for spectacular table tops.  In the Swing MIll configuration, a circular blade swings between the vertical and horizontal, to cut boards up to 10 inches thick (vertical dimension), and 20 inches wide (horizontal dimension).  The log is typically not turned or moved with this sawmill except to adjust it at the beginning for optimum results.

Measure twice  (or more) before cutting this walnut log!!!

Terrific Timbers

The walnut crotch slab, below, was sawn from a Y=shaped crotch section about 4 feet wide.  The Peterson mill with its chain slabber attachment will accurately and efficiently saw slabs like these.

Terrific Timbers!!  Freshly sawn walnut is green in color, and turns the familiar brown-purple in a few minutes after being exposed to air.  You can see the green color fading away in this crotch board.

Again, your inquiry is most welcome. Contact Dennis at 860-235-4504 or by email.
